Two of the American South’s most celebrated writers, Flannery O’Connor and Eudora Welty, presented their readers with stories situating life’s extraordinary moments within its quotidian or ordinary occasions. Welty’s “A Still Moment” and “A Worn Path” as well as O’Connor’s “Greenleaf” and “Revelation” show us that the seemingly insignificant moments in a person’s life are full of meaning—one might even say grace, even if grace sometimes discloses itself in situations that are challenging or painful. In addition to these four short fictions, this course, led by Dr. Darren Middleton, will read and discuss The Quotidian Mysteries by Kathleen Norris
