Two of the American South’s most celebrated writers, Flannery
O’Connor and Eudora Welty, presented their readers with stories
situating life’s extraordinary moments within its quotidian or
ordinary occasions. Welty’s “A Still Moment” and “A Worn Path”
as well as O’Connor’s “Greenleaf” and “Revelation” show us
that the seemingly insignificant moments in a person’s life are full
of meaning—one might even say grace, even if grace
sometimes discloses itself in situations that are challenging or
painful. In addition to these four short fictions, this course, led by
Dr. Darren Middleton, will read and discuss The Quotidian
Mysteries by Kathleen Norris
